CFJFC U13’s (3) vs VINTERS VALLEY (3)
After last weeks excellent game we had a very disappointing start to this game and for the first 20 -25 minutes Vinters were the superior team and looked likely of scoring with every attack , and indeed it was not long before they took the lead.
Rapidly making notes on the side lines I noticed a number of errors where we were being outplayed and it was necessary to make some changes and strengthen the Midfield, and this appeared to change the pattern of the game, with CFJFC now becoming the dominant force. As a result we were more competitive and stronger in the tackle and started to play better team football and went into Half Time (1-1).
We really need to find a way of taking charge from the Kick Off and not leaving ourselves with an uphill battle !!
After a solid half time team talk and more changes together with some “encouraging” words, this appeared to have the desired effect and right from the kick off I noticed a big improvement and we were lucky not to score with a good team effort and the boys finally starting to play football and looking more like a team. Once again against the run of play we conceded yet another goal, much to the annoyance of our Goal Keeper !!
However in previous years we would have given up , but the team attitude has changed , although we are still to reach the levels of last season, and back we came and eventually equalised !! Now was the time to “push forward” and it was not long before we scored again to make it 3-2, which was well deserved and came from continued pressure. Once again the cross bar prevented us from making it 4-2 ( I think we are jinxed).
With minutes ticking away a stroke of luck and a slight relax in concentration allowed Vinters to equaliser once again, and despite more pressure from CFJFC and a good shout for a hand ball in the penalty box ( well I would say that) the game ended in a disappointing 3-3 draw, and 2 more points dropped.
Positives today were the performance of those players who played out of position due to either absence of key players or injuries, together with the return to form of a few players especially down the right side, and our solid central defence. We said at the start that the first few games would be like Friendlies and I think that the coaching team now realise we need to revert to last season formation with JH on the left and WT leading the attack, as we are stronger in this formation as we partially proved today.
Well done Josh on another 2 goals and also to Alfie on his goal.
Much better second half. For those who want to see the League Table -see below:
Having studied the table and the other teams results and goals scored etc , I remain confident that we can do well this season, we just need to get that determination and desire back and most importantly the boys attitude “when we drop points” this was a big factor last season
