Club Newsletter #1 – August 2015

Dear Players, Parents/Guardians, Managers and Coaches

Welcome to the 1st Newsletter of Coxheath & Farleigh JFC, which I hope will be popular and will become a regular feature during the coming season, and as Chairman I will try to find the time to prepare these unless there is a willing volunteer amongst you?

The Club continues to develop under the present Committee and Team Managers who have worked tirelessly to get us to the very positive position we are in today. The club is now of a size where more help is required at Committee level to ensure all roles remain achievable for volunteers and the club continues to succeed both on and off the pitch, and reach Charter Standard. This stage as we prepare for the season ahead is always challenging for everyone involved with the club. Any decisions on the movement of players between is always difficult at this time of the year and often leaves Managers “scratching their heads” searching for new players , but once again this has been achieved and most teams have full squads.

Next season’s plans are in full swing; with the number of leagues our teams are now entered in to increasing please be mindful of the pressure on our Club Secretary at this time. The Club will be a member of various leagues next season, which has increased as a result of our Under 12’s entering The Express Cabs League, and I wish them well in the challenge ahead. Please be sure that when registering players for next season that all paperwork is complete and returned timely to team managers.

I will still be heavily involved with the club in running the Under 12’s team next season as well as being The Club Chairman for the year ahead. It has been a pleasure to be associated with Coxheath & Farleigh JFC for 13 years now and overall an enjoyable challenge to be Chairman for 3 years and I cannot underestimate to you the importance of the drive, team work and determination from The Committee and Team Managers & respective Coaches that has allowed the club to grow and continue to develop. Everyone within the club should feel extremely lucky to have such dedicated people steering the club in the right direction.

I am aware that team training will be resuming shortly for the teams across the club. I hope all players, coaches and parents enjoy the pre-season build up having had a well-earned break and summer holiday away from football. It is essential for everyone to have a break, if only for a couple of weeks to re-charge and come back fresh for pre-season training

The Future of Coxheath

The future is in great hands but as mentioned above to ensure our success continues we need to ensure the people and infrastructure around the club continues to develop and grow. The Committee will need to expand, to fill some of the vacant position currently available and any candidate interested in joining should in the first instance contact me direct , or alternatively approach your respective Team Manager who will provide you with my contact details. All candidates will then be interviewed by the committee for the respective roles.

Charter Standard

As a club, our Secretary (Martin Cowell), has been working very hard for some months now along with The Kent FA, with a view to ensuring that we become and are recognised as a Charter Standard Club.

The FA Charter Standard programme supported by McDonald’s is a kitemark, which recognises and rewards high quality levels of provision in club and league football. The kitemark is awarded to clubs and leagues that are well run, sustainable, which place child protection, quality coaching and safety paramount.

The FA Charter Standard kitemark was launched in 2001 and now has 6800 clubs, with 653 advanced level Community Clubs and 300 leagues. The kitemark is a major focus of The FA’s £200 million FA National Game Strategy and has improved coaching, the number of girls’ football teams and safeguarding children.

There are three levels of FA Charter Standard Awards for clubs to recognise the different standards. The entry level is an ‘FA Charter Standard Club’, the next level is an ‘FA Charter Standard Development Club’ and the most advanced ‘FA Charter Standard Community Club’. Each advanced level requires additional criteria to be met.

Any club can apply for FA Charter Standard status, even a one-team club. The criteria are challenging, but are attainable for this club. Once awarded, FA Charter Standard clubs and leagues are given an annual health check to ensure the standards of provision are maintained.

Criteria for achieving the entry level award include having a trained Welfare Officer, CRB checks for all volunteers, Emergency Aid-trained volunteers linked to each team, Respect programme sign-up, a Level One coach for each youth team, appropriate club administration in place and a volunteer co-ordinator.

The benefits for an FA Charter Standard club include free tickets upon application for England youth and women’s internationals, local in-service FA/McDonald’s coaching events, administration support sessions and support with funding applications.

The ‘hidden’ benefits are key to most clubs working towards the kitemark. By achieving an FA Charter Standard Club Award, you are demonstrating to all members, parents, sponsors and the public, that you are a well-organised, safe club offering opportunities for all.

The application are assessed by the County FA nominated officer. Feedback will be obtained from the leagues that your club plays in to ensure that your club displays the high levels expected of an FA Charter Standard Club.

The FA Charter Standard Working Party provides feedback on each application, which will include an action plan and a recommendation. If Coxheath & Farleigh JFC meets the criteria, the County FA will our application to The FA for awarding. We are very close to acheiving this status and therefore you can see that this is “very exciting time” for the club generally and will enable us to move to the next level. Please support us at this time as we aim to improve the status for all members.

Fun Event/Sporting Challenge – A Huge Success

Firstly a big thanks to everyone who assisted with the organising of this event recently especially Andy Smith, whose idea it was and coordinated the entire event. I hope you can appreciate the mammoth amount of work that goes in to organising such a key events from a group of volunteers who have families and full time jobs. For a small group of people this totalled several hours of their personal time both prior to and on the day of the event starting at about 7:30am with setting up etc and finishing at a similar time in the evening to ensure that the event was successful and fun for all parents, family members, coaches and players.

I understand that plans are already being made for when the event come around next year and it would certainly ease the pressure off of the volunteer organisers immensely and reduce the stress levels. Full details will be able when the time arrives if you wish to become involved, as well as appearing on our new website, which is currently under construction, and will contain nearly 300 photographs of this year’s event.

I hope to be able to provide everyone with the new web address in the near future and before the new season starts.

Presentation Evening

I am extremely pleased to announce that our Presentation Evening was another huge success and hopefully enjoyed by all those that attended especially those players who received their Participation Awards, Clubman Award, Managers Award, Supporters Player of The Year Award, Players Player of The Year Award as well as Team of The Year Award and Bronze & Silver Awards for long service, many congratulations to everyone. The event was extremely well supported and as a result of the Raffle, Bar-B-Que, Auction and other monetary donations this year a profit was made. The only down side was as a Chelsea Supporter I was not successful in being the highest bidder (by a long way I would add) for the signed Didier Drogba Football. Many thanks for those who bid a significant amount of money on the evening (No Names mentioned but they know who they are), your financial support is greatly appreciated. A very special thank you to anyone who donated prizes, purchased raffle tickets, and helped on the evening.

A Special “thank you” much however go to Paul Turner for comparing the entire evening, I need not look no further next year !

General Club Updates – Newsletter 1

Old Kit – Each year many teams within the club purchase new kit. Any kit purchased by the team sponsor remains the property of Coxheath & Farleigh JFC. Please ensure all old kit is returned to your team manager. In our container area we have various containers where this old kit can be placed. This is often passed down to the younger teams or donated to charity organisations that may be interested in our old kit, and equipment so we can ensure it continues to be utilised.

Under 9 Colts – We believe our team model works best and allows for players of different abilities to develop at an early age and this has enabled us for next season to be able to add an Under 9 Colts Team which now means that we have started to increase our member numbers and hopefully this will continue in the years ahead.

Overview & Successes

It has been another successful season (2014-15) both on and off the field. We have more qualified coaches than ever before who are helping our players to develop. The Club are very supportive of coaches who wish to develop themselves and we will always support any coaching qualifications that people would like to put their time and effort in to obtaining.

The Academy is going from strength to strength and as we always say this is the future of the club, so please if you know of or have any young children wishing to become involved in Grass Roots Football at an early stage please bring them along to Coxheath Village Hall on a Saturday Morning, not only is it good for the children, but it is a wonderful social atmosphere. We are very close to agreeing new arrangements with an external soccer school to work with Coxheath & Farleigh to ensure improved learning ability and training skills.

Hopefully you have enjoyed reading our 1st Newsletter and you will agree with me that this is a very exciting time for Coxheath & Farleigh Junior Football Club, and all associated with it. In conclusion I hope you all have a fantastic Season ahead whether as a player, manager, coach, or a supporter on the touchline.

However please remember one thing – Football is all about enjoyment and most importantly “Respect”, please try to encourage all boys and girls who play the beautiful game whichever team they are playing for and not critise. Additionally Managers & Coaches give up their time free of charge, and cannot always get everything right and finally the 100’s of Referees across the county also deserve respect and their decision is always final.
